Saved, now what?

how to receive the holy spirit - good news unlimited on Image Of The Holy Spirit“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative – that is, the Holy Spirit – he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

John 14:26

Jesus spent a lot of time with his disciples. This time was not always spent in walking, fishing, and telling jokes, although I’m sure they did their share of that. Most of Jesus’ time was spent in teaching lessons that the disciples would need after he left them. Lessons on how to talk with authority when you don’t agree with them, lessons on how to show love to the unlovely, and lessons on repentance when you fall short of God’s expectations.

I have a heavy burden for those who accept Christ and are not taught the “what’s next” of a Christian life. My burden was given to me from God and through that burden I wrote “From Self-esteem to God-esteem.” These words on paper are a guideline to listening to the Holy Spirit in the “what’s next.”

When we accept Christ as our Savior and acknowledge that he has forgiven, and always will, our sins, we are free. We are free to be whoever we want to be. But as we are told in Psalm 37:4 that if you, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart,” our desires will be the same as God’s. Dwelling in the relationship with God is where the Holy Spirit comes in, and also where we fall short in mentoring new Christians in their walk.

Our strength to walk with God comes from the strength of God in us. Jesus did not leave his disciples, or us, to their own devices. He left them with an indwelling Holy Spirit that provides a way to continue walking with Christ. The Holy Spirit teaches us as Christ taught his followers: talking, loving, and repenting. He gives us wisdom and understanding for living in a sin-full world. He  teaches us meaning when we read the Scriptures, and he reveals sin through discernment.

We should never neglect the Holy Spirit power in us. I spent many confusing years trying to do it on my own, because I was saved through a denomination that made me feel like the Holy Ghost was a dirty word. I didn’t realize that I had all that I needed right with me from the moment I accepted Christ to live a Christian life. I worked, I studied, and I did. And I searched for something I thought was missing.

What a revival we could have if we would only take the time to mentor Christians and show them through God’s Word the power against the world that we have inside of us. My pastor has been giving out the “From Self – esteem to God – esteem” book to new converts at the time of their salvation. But we need more. That book is only a stepping stone to helping each other draw on the wisdom, strength, and power of the Holy Spirit living inside each of us.

Who can you mentor today?

Thirty Days of Prayer for @realDonaldTrump – Day 12: Discernment

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!”

Isaiah 5: 20-21

Father God, today I pray for our leaders to know your definition of discernment and to ask for that gift in their leadership. Give each of them a discerning spirit to know when the decisions they are making are for the good or the evil. Show them the difference between darkness of sin and unrighteous leadership and the light of leading with your Word as their road map.

I ask, Lord, that You would open the eyes of our President – elect Donald J. Trump’s to see when the decisions he is making are best for the America he loves. Give him boldness to stand firm in the Christian values that we cherish and to be wise only through your wisdom.

Father, bless each of the cabinet,  staff and Supreme Court Justices with a double – dose of discernment and the wisdom to follow your lead. Bless Donald J. Trump in the coming weeks as he transitions into the office of President of the United States of America with a hunger for your Word and a desire to lead our country in the way of restoration. Help him, Lord, to have the knowledge to take us from wanting to fill our own wants to a people that desires to pull together for each other’s needs. And through that knowledge, Lord, take us back to being united once again.

In Jesus’ Name,

Thirty Days of Prayer for @realDonaldTrump – Day 10: America – A beacon to the world

“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways  and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
 He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,neither shall they learn war anymore.

O house of Jacob (America), come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.”

Isaiah 2:2-5

Lord, I lift President – Elect Donald J. Trump up to You today. Thank You for selecting him to lead America back to the great nation it was. We are Americans and we are blessed by You that we live in this free country. Release us from our selfish desires and restore us to greatness by turning our hearts back to You and your Word. I pray that Mr. Trump and his chosen support will be the ones to give us that model to follow.

Father God, I pray that Donald Trump feel in his spirit that the only way to greatness is through following You. That every decision he makes is guided by his time alone with You and with other Christian leaders. I pray that You would give him a vision of America great again, going to the mountain of God high above us and living life according to your statutes.

I pray for peace for the nations, that one day we will have no need for weapons of destruction and, as Isaiah states, our weapons will be recycled into productive tools to feed and clothe the world. Help Mr. Trump to lead us into that position, Lord. Give him wisdom and discernment as he completes his transition into the leader of the best country in the world…America.

In Jesus’ Name,

Thirty Days of Prayer for @realDonaldTrump – Day 2: His Cabinet

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
    but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Proverbs 13:20

Father God, today I would like to pray for the decisions that President – Elect Donald J. Trump has to make over the next couple of months. Specifically, Lord, I would like to pray for those he will appoint to positions that affect this country and the American people in their quality of life, their jobs, their safety, and their confidence in raising their children in a country that respects You, God, as their true Leader.

I pray for those who he would put in as the Supreme Court Justices, that they would be wise and in – tune with the laws that govern this great nation. That they would hold to the premise that all lives matter including the unborn. Return us to Your design for marriage as one man and one woman so that the family strength is preserved. And Father, we need You in our country, in our government, and in our schools. Help us, Lord, to return this nation to You so that we can grow and flourish as the America we were. You promised in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Lord, heal our land.

Our country is diverse, Lord Jesus, and we respect each citizen of America. I ask You to surround President – Elect Trump with cabinet that appreciates the struggles that we face and strives to help us build a strong economy with stable means of supporting our families. Help them to see the need to hear the voices of the working class as well as those with greater means. Please, God, help him to choose for the people and not for pride:

Bless each choice for the Secretary of: Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury and Veterans Affairs. Their roles are to advise President – Elect Trump on any subject within their respective offices. Help him to choose with wisdom, Lord.

Of course, above all, is my prayer for Donald J. Trump’s salvation. Father God, no one can win without You, and we want him to be a winner in leading our country.

In Jesus’ Name,

Thirty Days of Prayer for My Husband – Day 15: Our Decisions

couple picture
Make all decisions together, with God.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”      James 1:5

Lord, I life every decision that we make up to You for Your guidance and blessing. We trust You, Lord, as our reminder when we start to make the wrong decision.

Lord, there is often indecision in my husband’s work. Sometimes it is difficult to go forward just one more day, but we ask You to give him release when it is time to seek something else.

Bless us in our home buying decisions. Give my husband wisdom to know when and where it is time to move or stay. As we near retirement, Lord, it is often on our minds as to what we need to do to live within our means both financially and healthily. There are many families just starting out, and I remember that. Do they buy, do they rent; what is the best choice? I look back over the years and I see that You never let us down; You were always directing our paths and sometimes closed doors that we desperately thought we wanted open. I pray for my husband that You will continue to direct him in every aspect of our decision – making lives. Throw up the red flags when we start to move without Your blessing.

We lay all our decisions at Your feet, dear Lord, and ask You for the wisdom to recognize when You are directing our thoughts. Thank You for the peace that we live in by trusting in You.
