If my people…Day 39

“Hear a just cause, O Lord, attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. Let my vindication come from Your presence; let Your eyes look on the things that are upright… uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip.” Psalm 17:1-2,5

When I think of our country, the negative is first to my mind. The selfish motives for voting, the feelings of separation because of skin color, the shootings in our public places, and so much more. It is hard to pray with no deceit on my lips. How do I pray for officials who support everything that goes against the Christian beliefs our country was built on? How can I look at my precious grandchildren and know that under different circumstances, our laws would have supported killing any of them. How do I clear my mind enough to pray?

In my devotions today I was in Romans 8: 6-8 “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

I found that in order to pray for those in power who do not support God’s Word, I must get out of my own flesh – filled mind and let the Holy Spirit lead my prayers. I want America back to God, reading His Word and living in His Holy Spirit. I must get out of “self” and let God lead my praying for America.

Lord, We cry out to You with hearts that need Your blessings. Give us wisdom to make right decisions that will bring honor to You and will purify our hearts. Let the words that we speak draw us closer to Your presence. We recognize, O Lord, that You are in control of all things. Help this nation to hear Your voice, protect us from evil, and lead us in the path of righteousness for Your name‘s sake. Amen

If my people who are called by my Name humble themselves, and pray, and seek my Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
