If my people…Day 29

So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:21-22

The book of Luke reminds us that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains. My mind is putting that into context of what America is going through right now and thinking about what our country could look like if each of us prayed with that strength of faith.

When we pray, our words should not be just what is written in our prayer journals. These can be good to remind us of current needs and requests, but only a starting point. And how often do we pray by rote memory? I used to write each request fully either on my prayer board or in my journal and I would read through the absolute need written. Then I realized that the Holy Spirit knows the need far better than the person who requested it or what I know.

My project management mind goes to how we approach a customer who comes to me and says they need a new tool for tracking their work. In talking with them and getting a view of their current process, it is discovered that not only do they need a tool for tracking their work (project management/Agile), but also a tool for initiating their work (demand, incident management). If I had not talked with the customer, we may have not given them what they needed but only a partial solution.

In praying, we only see what the request is. By talking with God, He reveals the full need. This is where faith comes in. Knowing that God knows all things, we can pray by faith through revelation of the Holy Spirit. And we can pray confidently that God has heard and responded in a way that He alone will be glorified.

O Lord, Strengthen our faith. Help us to never doubt Your Word or Your faithfulness. Lift us up that we may boldly proclaim Your truth each and every day. Let us be sensitive to the leading of Your Spirit and never forget that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. Lord, we praise You because Your mercies are new every morning, and Your faithfulness is great. May You always be glorified by our prayers and our faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

“If my people who are called by my Name humble themselves, and pray, and seek my Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal (America).” 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
